Who started Gun Monkey Coffee Company?

Gun Monkey Coffee Company was started by Thomas Hoban, a former Army sergeant with the 10th Mountain Division who deployed to Afghanistan in 2013 to Paktia Province, Forward Operating Base (FOB) Lightning.

During his deployment to Afghanistan, coffee wasn't a luxury—it was a necessity. Long days often started with a cup of coffee. The problem was that most of it was terrible. It was stale, bitter, or simply the cheapest coffee available, but it was all soldiers had.

In 2020, Tom founded Gun Monkey Coffee Company with one goal in mind: to send freshly roasted, high-quality coffee to deployed service members so they could enjoy something far better. Today, every bag of Gun Monkey Coffee sold helps fund coffee that is roasted, packaged, and shipped to military units around the world.

Where does the name "Gun Monkey" come from?

The term "gun monkey" is military slang that traditionally refers to junior enlisted service members—the men and women who carry much of the day-to-day burden of military operations. They are often the ones working long hours, enduring difficult conditions, and serving on the front lines.

Gun Monkey Coffee exists to serve them, just as they serve our country.

Today, Gun Monkey Coffee continues to roast and ship fresh coffee to active-duty military personnel around the world. We also support organizations that promote the mental health and well-being of veterans and returning service members.
